The 14th year that U.S. News & World Report has released a list of the top 9 best cars for families is back with its annual rating. The automobile types that fall under this category are minivans, big SUVs, two-row and three-row SUVs, compact SUVs, hybrid cars, and EVs. The magazine claims that part of their “award criteria considers each vehicle’s overall U.S. rating.News Best Car Rankings to assess quality, taking into account factors such as safety statistics, anticipated dependability ratings, passenger and freight capacity, and the general viewpoint of the automotive media.” Aside from that, the availability of technological features like hands-free cargo doors, automated emergency braking, teen driver controls, in-car wireless internet, and rear cross-traffic alert systems is evaluated.

2024’s Top Two-Row Midsize SUV best cars for Families Honda Passport — Prior to falling short against the Hyundai Santa Fe in this category last year, the Passport had won it three times in a row. Honda reclaims the top position after winning four races overall.

2024’s Top Big SUV for Families Chevrolet Suburban: This is the Suburban’s fourth consecutive victory and sixth overall. The large SUV class is the only consistent domestic dominance. After the Ford Expedition won from 2018 to 2020 and the Yukon and Escalade siblings triumphed in 2016 and 2017, respectively, it remains at the top.
2024’s Top Hybrid SUV best cars for Families Hybrid Toyota Highlander — Since it was introduced to the list by U.S. News, the Highlander Hybrid has won 12 awards in this category. Toyota has only suffered a single defeat, giving up the trophy to the Lexus RX Hybrid in 2014.
2024’s Top Midsize Family Vehicle Toyota Camry — The Camry unseats the winner from last year, the Kia K5, in the dwindling field of midsize sedans. The Honda Accord had won the class three out of the previous four years prior to the K5, with the Camry taking first place in 2020 to break the Honda’s winning run.
